HB 4962:  Would create the Michigan National Guard Member Benefit Fund Act.

Sponsor:  Rep. Robinson (R)

Passage:  93-16 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Advocates may argue that a member benefit fund allows for flexibility in adding and removing benefits as needed, as opposed to funds that are specifically to implement one benefit.

– – –

HB 5055:  Would amend the Legislative Sergeant at Arms Police Powers Act to expand the powers of the House and Senate Sergeants.

Sponsor:  Rep. Lightner (R)

Passage:  61-48 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Proponents of the bill may argue that this bill would improve the Sergeants’ ability to protect members of the legislature. It would empower the Sergeants to be able to provide security for and investigate threats toward or crimes committed against a legislator.

HB 4706:  FY2025-26 Budget for multiple departments and branches

Sponsor:  Rep. Bollin (R)

Passage:  101-8 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: One of the biggest areas of waste identified by House Republicans is the money set aside in the state budget for ghost employees. These employees don’t exist but departments take the funding anyway and use it as a slush fund. Taxpayers deserve better. We cut 2,000 ghost employees, freeing up hundreds of millions of dollars that can be redirected into fixing roads and improving public safety. This is a real step toward reining in waste and stopping the endless growth of bureaucracy in Lansing.

SB 579:  Eliminates the sunset and adds CPI to numerous DEGLE program fees.

Sponsor:  Sen. Singh (D)

Passage:  104-5 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The legislature uses sunset language to ensure the periodic review of programs that may otherwise not receive oversite.

– – –

SB 273:  Extends the sunset until October 1, 2029 for current fees for pesticide product registrations and fertilizer sales and ensures the continuation of the popular Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) program.

Sponsor:  Sen. Daley (R)

Passage:  107-2 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: MAEAP is an innovative, proactive program that helps farms of all sizes, and all commodities voluntarily prevent agricultural environmental issues.

– – –

SB 577:  Amends the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act to extend the sunset to October 1, 2029 which allows DEGLE to charge fees to offer operator certification programs for those seeking to operate a public water system. The current authorization for these fees expires on October 1, 2025.

Sponsor:  Sen. Singh (D)

Passage:  103-6 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The substitute bill extends the sunset allowing the legislature to periodically review the program and funding.

– – –

SB 565:  Allows funds in the Local Government Reimbursement Fund to lapse into the General Fund.

Sponsor:  Sen. Anthony (D)

Passage:  102-7 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Excess money in the fund shouldn’t remain in the fund, especially if we aren’t spending all of what is in the fund.

– – –

SB 574:  Eliminates the annual deposit in the Budget Stabilization Fund (BSF) from Tobacco Settlement Revenue.

Sponsor:  Sen. Singh (D)

Passage:  104-5 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Eliminating the earmark of Tobacco Settlement Funds will allow these funds to be used elsewhere.

– – –

SB 166:  FY2025-26 School Aid Omnibus Vehicle Bill

Sponsor:  Sen. Camilleri (D)

Passage:  104-5 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: Our budget provides record-high funding for Michigan schools with a per-pupil foundation allowance increase that was denied to schools last year. We’re investing $442 more per student, bringing the total foundation allowance to $10,050. Funding for free school breakfast and lunch was never in question. Our budget continues to provide dedicated resources for this program, so families know their children will always have access to healthy meals at school.

HB 4961:  Applies tax credits from the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act to state income taxes and decouples provisions of the state tax code from the federal tax code.

Sponsor:  Rep. Bollin (R)

Passage:  102-7 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: This aligns state tax provisions with federal law and provides a tax break for working class Michiganders.

BILL PACKAGE HB 4180 & SB 578:  Road Funding Deal – would dedicate over $1 billion to roads, including $702 million to local roads, by dedicating $692 million of the Corporate Income Tax to local roads. It would also remove the sales tax on fuel and replace it with an equivalent motor fuel tax raising additional funding for roads without raising taxes. Out of the funds for local roads, cities and villages will receive $246 million and county road commissions will receive $456 million. The bills would also create the Neighborhood Roads Fund (NRF) and Infrastructure Projects Authority Fund (IPAF) within PA 51.

Sponsors:  Reps. Steele (R), Frisbie (R), Slagh (R), Kunse (R), & Sen. Klinefelt (D)

HB 4180-4181 Passages:  102-7 with Immediate Effect

HB 4183 Passage:  98-11 with Immediate Effect

SB 578 Passage:  104-5 with Immediate Effect

Investing in infrastructure not only improves daily life for residents but also strengthens the economy by supporting businesses and job growth.
