State Rep. Nancy DeBoer (R-Holland) voted in favor of Michigan’s final budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. This plan delivers meaningful tax relief for working families, record investments for Michigan students, critical funding for school safety and mental health, and long-term solutions for fixing Michigan’s roads.
“This budget reflects the priorities of the people of Michigan,” said DeBoer. “We are delivering tax relief for families, making record high funding to our classrooms, restoring critical funding to keep our students safe, and ensuring that the money people pay at the pump actually goes toward fixing our roads. Most importantly, this budget is responsible, transparent, and puts Michigan taxpayers first.”
Key highlights of the budget include:
- Eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay: The budget ends state taxes on tips and overtime pay helping many Michiganders keep more of what they earn.
- Investing $2 billion more in road funding: Ensures gas tax dollars go directly to fixing roads and bridges.
- Requiring full transparency for earmarks: All projects went through open hearings, with for-profits barred from receiving them.
- Providing record high funding for schools: $10,050 per student, a $442 increase from last year, with equal funding for cyber schools.
- Restoring school safety and mental health funding: $321 million to support both public and private schools.
“We worked hard to make sure this budget puts the needs of people first,” said DeBoer. “This is about building stronger schools, safer communities, and a brighter future for Michigan.”
