Rep. Cavitt Blasts MDHHS for Leaving Northeast Michigan Without Representation
RELEASE|April 8, 2026
Contact: Cam Cavitt

State Rep. Cam Cavitt today called out the MDHHS for not appropriately representing Northeast Michigan in the newly established Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) Advisory Council.

The RHTP is designed to increase access to rural health providers and improve outcomes for members of rural communities. The advisory council is a group of partners who will provide insight on rural health priorities and offer recommendations to MDHHS leadership.

“Once again, MDHHS has excluded the voices of Northeast Michigan from crucial conversations,” said Cavitt (R-Cheboygan). “This program is designed to make important evaluations regarding rural healthcare, and our communities absolutely need to be involved in the decision-making process. The current delegation of advisors clearly underrepresents the people of Northeast Michigan, and it’s unacceptable.”

Cavitt went on to emphasize the pressing need for accurate representation.

“We’re talking about some of the most rural counties in the state,” Cavitt said. “Our people deserve to be a part of any conversation regarding rural initiatives, and yet MDHHS has been continuously denying our people fair representation. It must stop now.”
